The Dragonfly  was designed by Harry Grogan for the AMA A-1 Towline Glider rules in 1972. At that time the rules  specified a minimum weight of 145 gms. (5.1 oz.), a maximum total projected area of 279sq.in., and a 50 meter towline. In the late 70's AMA adopted the FAI rules for F1H. This increased the minimum weight to 220 gms. (7.75 oz.). That made a huge difference. Modern F1H models are complicated carbon fiber reinforced  circle tow bunters.  Today the  Dragonfly is not really competitive in F1H but great as a vintage TLG and for the popular Hi-Start event. Model has a 48 1/2” span and 274 sq. in. area.  Flying weight of our model is 161 grams (5.7 oz.) including tracker, and it loves thermals.  Contest record includes a 2 place in the 1974 USFFC, 3rd at the 1975 NATS, and 3rd at the 1978 USFFC in A-1 glider.  Model also took 1st place in F1H at the 1996 King Orange Internationals.
