New Model Kits

Country Boy B-124
The 1/2A Country Boy, designed by Jim Clem in 1976, was published in the March 1977 issue of Model Aviation. It was reported to by the ideal compromise for 1/2A Free Flight. With a relatively high aspect ratio (7.5 to 1), a good gliding airfoil, the model is small enough to climb swiftly and yet glide well with a target weight of 7 oz. The Country Boy has been chosen by the national Free flight Society for one-design competition at the 2010 Nationals, flown to Nostalgia Rules, using any Nostalgia legal engine or TD .049-051. 46" span 285 sq. in. area

1/2A Viking B-128
The BMJR version of Carl Goldberg's 1/2A Viking is scaled to 84% of the original by John Anderson for the National Free Flight Society one design competition at the 2011 Nats. Model retains all the lines of the original, and the same flight cartelistic except fir a faster climb. Kit also has exterior instead of center spars for a stiffer wing. The one-design event is to be flown to Nostalgia rules, with any Nostalgia legal or TD.049 engine. Model has a 42: spa with area of 265 sq. in.

Stunt Champ B-251
The International Stunt Champ by Lloyd Curtis was the winner of the 6th Annual Plymouth International Model Plane Contest in Detroit, Michigan, August, 1952, and was awarded the Air Trails Perpetual Trophy. The Design was published in the March 1953 issue of Air Trails, in which Mr. Curtis wrote; If you want a realistic-looking model that will stunt like crazy, this is it. Its realistic appearance and clean lines also won a high position in appearance points. The original model was cream with red trim and a black pin stripe. It has a combination of features from many other history making stunt planes. Flying this model is a challenge to any stunter. It has a lot of tail and flap movement for sharp corners and if you ease her around with a steady hand it is very smooth. The BMJR models was created for Bob Whitney to fly at the 2009 Vintage Stunt Championships in Tuscon, Az. 41" span. 447 sq. in area

Orion 1/2 B-319
In April 1960 Model Airplane News reported that the Orion by Ed Kazmirski achieves a new standard of high performance. In the MAN article Ed comments, " The Orion, like any airplane design, is one answer to a problem. The problem, in this case, was the need for a ship capable of more nearly perfect maneuvers." The Orion 1/2 by Paul Bradley is a 1/2 scale model of this classic design, and with brushless electric motor is capable of all the same maneuvers performed by the original. BMJR Model has a 36" wing span and area of 194 sq. in.

Taurus 1/2 B-320
In January 1963, MAN reported, “…...in 1960 Ed Kazmirski’s Orion was the best multi offered to date – now the Taurus is the best”. The Taurus was designed to be a plane that would perform the maneuvers more nearly perfect, but more important, would be easy to fly. The big difference in the Taurus over the Orion is the wing section with a 19% thick airfoil, which helps eliminate tip stall, is not sensitive to slight elevator beeps, is stronger, and as speed increases the increased drag slows the model for a more consistent airspeed during maneuvers. Another big change was the use of “strip ailerons”, coupled with a short nose and long tail moment. The Taurus ½ by Paul Bradley is a scaled version of the original, is designed for brushless electric power, includes a steerable nose gear for ground handling, and fly’s like a larger ship. The Taurus completes the linage of multi channel pattern RC design staring with the Astro Hog in the 1950’s, to the Orion and Taurus. Model has a wing span of 36”with and area of 194” sq. Flying weight is around 15 oz. BMJR kit has 20 laser cut sheets of parts and a complete hardware pack. All you need to add is covering, motor and RC gear.

Astro-Hog 1/2 B-321
Prior to the Astro-Hog, by Fred Dunn and published in the April 1958 issue of MAN, radio controlled models were all high wing designs. Consensus of the R/C flyers at the time was that low wingers were doomed and would never be suitable for R/C use. But with the introduction of multi-channel radio equipment featuring simultaneous control, ailerons were the answer. The Astro-Hog opened the door for performing complex maneuvers like slow rolls, four point rolls, and inverted flight. The design was reported to be aerodynamically sound and structurally capable of withstanding any normal abuse. It was also reported that the number of flights per crackup was increasing with the Astro-Hog which led many builders to add extra finishing details to their models. At 36” span the BMJR Astro-Hog is half size of the original 72”, and is truly a model of a model. With brushless electric power, and wing area 194 sq. in. and a flying weight in the 17oz range, its flight characteristic has proven to be excellent, and following the original structural design has produced a substantial airframe.

Perigee .56 B-322
The Perigee was designed by Tom Brett and flown to the become world champion in 1962. One feature of the Perigee was that it was a little smaller than most aerobatic ships of the time. This lead to Paul Bradly scaling the model to 56%, to have a similar span, wing area and therefore flight characteristics of his ½ scale designs of the Astro-Hog, Orion and Taurus. Perigee has a 15% thick simi-symmetrical airfoil to increase the stalling speed range, with a sharp entry without a tendency to drop a wing tip. The tapered wings are intended to stabilize approaches in gusty weather, and the rudder hinge angle is sloped for more reliable spin entry. The BMJR Perigee .56 has a span of 36” with 200 sq. in. of area, giving us a wing loading of 10.4 oz/ft at a flying weight of 14.5 oz.

Ranger-28 B-510
Carl Goldberg did a great job designing this rubber powered sport free flight model This model is a hybrid with features of the sheet balsa models of the time, with tissue covered built up structure. The fuselage is assembled from laser cut parts much like a jigsaw puzzle, that then gets tissue covered. This is a great model to introduce modelers to the world of a tissue covered built up structure. And it flies Great. 28" wing span

Panther B-604
The original Panther was designed in 1939 by Walter Schutz as a free flight with a 46” wingspan and an ignition engine. The Panther was unique for it’s time with a low wing rather than the more traditional high wing cabin type model. In 1939 it was kitted by the Peerless Model airplane company and became known as the Peerless Panther. The BMJR Panther is true to the original plan with the only changes to accommodate laser cutting technology and RC for SAM 1/2A and Electric Texaco competition. With a speed control it can be flown in Texaco limited motor run event, or as a relaxed sport model. The BMJR Texaco Panther has a wing span of 46” with area of 299 sq. in. Our finished flying weight is 19.8oz. ready to fly giving it a wing loading of 9.3 oz per ft.
